amelia + dan The two of us met in a mud puddle at the bottom of a slip-n-slide. Since then, we have driven across the country in a hatchback without air conditioning, camped out in gale force winds, been licked by hundreds of dogs, and smoked cigars at Al Capone's hideout. We are best friends who LOVE each other, and LOVE taking photographs. We currently live in gorgeous Charleston, South Carolina with our hilarious daughter Corinne and our two crazy, but lovable dogs Ashe and Bruester doing what we love with whom we love. It's official. I mean, we don't have uniforms or anything but we definitely have a game plan. We think it's really important to always remember that, and always make decisions with the mindset that we both win or we both lose. I (Dan) love knowing that Amelia is on my team because you couldn't ask for a more honest and reliable teammate. She is my best friend, the person that I have always felt I can share anything with without judgment. I truly cannot imagine my life without her. I (Amelia) love knowing Dan is on my team because he is FUN and can always make me laugh. He is always willing to listen, and if our team needs a little dance party pick-me-up he's ready to boogie. Describe each other in 3 words or less: Amelia is Sincere, Caring, Adorable. Dan is Passionate, Hilarious, Loving. Story behind the proposal: We went to stay with her parents at Sunset Beach, and I had planned to take her for a walk and write it in the sand. I missed my opportunity that first day, and the ring was burning a hole in my pocket. That night I just couldn't wait any longer, so I asked if she wanted to go for a walk on the beach. It was pouring down rain and there may have even been a tornado watch. Needless to say, it wasn't the best time for a walk, but I think by this time she kind knew what was coming, so she humored me (which she does a lot) and we headed out to the beach. It was pitch black and we were getting drenched when she finally asked me point blank what we were doing out there. I got down on one knee, popped the question, and promised her even though she couldn't see the ring that it was pretty. She said "yes, of course, now can we go back inside" with a smile and that was that. Favorite thing(s) to do together: We really enjoy going to the beach, one of the big reasons we chose Charleston to be our home. We also just enjoy quiet nights at home with a good movie. That's one of our favorite things about our relationship, even the random Tuesday nights are fun when we are together. Favorite food: Mexican, without a doubt. Favorite drink: Amelia - extra dirty martini with extra olives, Dan - pint of Guinness or something from the latest batch of home brew Favorite color: Amelia - green, Dan - black Something we've always wanted to do, but never done: visit Ireland Catalonia Biggest memory from the past year: All the hard work we have put into our goal of having a life together on our own terms doing what we love. Favorite movies and music genres: Both kinds Country and Western - hah! We like Rock and Roll, Reggae, Ska, Punk, Hip-Hop, lots of different types. We are really drawn to artists that are passionate about what they do more than a particular style. Favorite book: Amelia - Always tough to pick one, but I would say "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston, Dan - Tough one. "You Can't Win" by Jack Black (the turn of the 20th century hobo...not the actor) because I really love that he refused to compromise or live by anyone else's rules. Favorite places in the Lowcountry: the beach, Angel oak tree, Santi's, Coastal Discovery Museum, Charles Towne Landing, Madra Rua Irish Pub Favorite places we have traveled: We drove all the way across this country and we truly enjoyed all of the places we visited, but we've always loved coming home to the Carolinas.
