the two of us met in a mud puddle at the bottom of a slip-n-slide. since then, we have driven across the country in a hatchback without air conditioning, camped out in gale force winds, been licked by hundreds of dogs, and smoked cigars at al capone’s hideout. we’re best friends who LOVE each other, and LOVE taking photographs (especially yours). we live in gorgeous charleston, south carolina with our hilarious daughter corinne and our crazy but lovable dog ashe (plus a fish named janis and a worm farm…corinne wouldn’t want us to leave them out.)
here’s how dan proposed:
we went to stay with her parents at sunset beach, and i had planned to take her for a walk and write it in the sand. i missed my chance the first day, and the ring was burning a hole in my pocket. that night i just couldn’t wait any longer, so i asked amelia if she wanted to go for a walk on the beach. it was pouring down rain and there may have even been a tornado watch. not the best time for a walk, but by this point she kind of knew what was coming, so she humored me (she does that a lot). we headed out to the beach. it was pitch black. we were getting drenched when she finally asked me point blank what we were doing out there. i got down on one knee, popped the question, and promised her even though she couldn’t see the ring that it did in fact exist. she said “yes, of course, now can we go back inside” with a smile. and that was that!
favorite things to do together: we love family beach days (a big reason we chose charleston to be our home), and quiet nights at home with a good movie. that’s one of our favorite things about our relationship, even the random tuesday nights are fun when we are together.
favorite food: mexican, without a doubt!
favorite drink: amelia: extra dirty martini with extra olives; dan: pint of guinness or something from the latest batch of home brew
something we’ve always wanted to do, but never have done: visit morocco
favorite places in the lowcountry: folly beach, angel oak tree, the park cafe, charles towne landing, madra rua irish pub
amelia’s best advice for your wedding day: how often do you get to rally your entire group of family and friends to all come party with you in the same place? without a doubt, it will be a weekend bursting with happiness. you will dream about recreating this experience again and again so take some deep breaths and enjoy it!
dan’s best advice for your wedding day: remember this is supposed to be fun, so just relax, stay hydrated, and have a blast.
